The occlusal plate is indicated in patients suffering from "bruxism", a phenomenon characterized by the "grinding" or unconscious clenching of the teeth outside of periods of chewing and/or swallowing.

The mouth guard is used to significantly reduce the risk of injury to the teeth and mouth when practicing sports such as hockey, cycling, skiing, etc.
